Your text stays in your browser
All conversions on Symbol Translator run locally in your browser. The text you type is processed by JavaScript on your device and is not uploaded, stored on a server or shared with another service. The site has no account system and no database of messages.
Audio playback, WAV files, SVG files, PNG files and printed alphabet sheets are also generated on your device. Downloading a file does not send its contents anywhere.
What is stored on your device
Each tool remembers its last input and settings in your browser's local storage under a key such as st:morse. The Clear button removes that entry. This information never leaves your device and is not visible to the site owner.
Share links place the message in the URL fragment after the # character. Fragments are not sent to the web server when a page is requested. Anyone who receives the full link can read the message, so treat a share link like the message itself.
Your analytics choice is stored locally under st:consent so the site can remember it on your next visit. You can change it at any time through the Cookie settings link in the footer.
Analytics, recordings and cookies
The production site uses Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and Microsoft Clarity to understand which pages are useful and where visitors run into problems. These services may set cookies and collect standard usage information such as the pages viewed, device type, approximate region, referring site and interaction events.
Analytics events are limited to actions such as converting text, copying a result, playing audio, downloading a file, sharing a link or changing the detected direction. The text you enter is never included in an analytics event. GA4 stores event data for 14 months.
Clarity records sessions as replays and heatmaps so layout or usability problems can be found. Before a recording is made, every area that shows your input or its converted result is masked: the tool panes, the character map, the home page translator and result cards, the name-in-hieroglyphs and name-in-binary tools, the cursed style cards, the cartouche preview and the hidden puzzle answer. Text you type or convert therefore does not appear in a Clarity recording.
GA4 uses cookies named _ga and _ga_*. Clarity uses _clck and _clsk. On the production site, visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland do not receive analytics cookies by default. A consent bar appears for those visitors, and no GA4 or Clarity script is loaded until you accept. Accepting turns on both tools; declining keeps them off and removes any analytics cookies that were previously set. The same choices can be reopened through Cookie settings in the footer.
Access and deletion requests
You can ask for access to or deletion of analytics data associated with your browser by emailing [email protected]. Include the site name and, if possible, the approximate date and time of your visit so the request can be matched. Requests are handled within the time required by applicable law.
You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings. If you withdraw consent, the site stops sending analytics events from your browser, but data already collected may remain in the analytics provider's system until its retention period ends.
Third parties
The site is served as static files by Cloudflare Pages. Cloudflare may process standard request information such as your IP address and user agent in order to deliver the site and protect it from abuse.
The site's own fonts and scripts are served from this domain. After you consent to analytics, the Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity scripts are loaded from Google and Microsoft respectively. The tools do not call a translation API or another conversion service.
Where analytics consent is given, Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity process the information described above on behalf of this site. Their own privacy policies explain how they handle data as service providers.
